The Right Place to Live May Curb Senior’s Stress
August 25, 2009

Let's face it.  Getting older tends to make us worry a lot more about things that were simple issues of life when we were younger.  Paying the rent or mortgage, driving on the freeway or out-of-town, making and keeping friends, even just going out and having fun can become a real problem as the clock tick-tocks its way onward and upward toward old age.

The worry about money tends to be at the top of everyone’s list of problems.  Surprisingly enough even those with adequate funds face some of the same problems that their poorer cousin’s encounter, and some fret even about the money they do have.  Fortunately for those in the lower income categories, as a senior citizen many programs and opportunities have been designed to make your later years comfortable and affordable.  Government and private entities stand ready to make housing, health and happiness within the reach of most people.  Okay, the happiness part may be up to you, but the list of opportunities and services available to senior citizens is staggering.

Take housing, for instance.

The stress caused by monthly obligations, getting around, companionship, and even having fun can be minimized to a great extent when you live in the right place.  That is why everyone should consider low to moderate income housing when thinking about going forward alone or as a maturing couple.  Those who rent or those who need or want to sell their homestead are the ones that benefit the most from living in modest priced “senior’s communities.”  Over 50 percent of elderly renters in sub-standard housing have incomes of less than $14,000.  For them affordable housing solutions at rents they can afford may take the burden of worry off and open up a lifestyle that could very possibly extend life, or at minimum make it enjoyable.
